Chenin Blanc is the lost child of the New Zealand wine industry. Used and abused in the 1980’s as a bulk wine and cheap fizzy, it has been championed by only a handful of specialist winemakers since. Chenin Blanc needs the right vineyard site to express its true character. The lean soil and hot stones of our Gimblett Gravels vineyard controls the wines natural vigour and allows it to ripen fully. A harmonious wine that exemplifies the art of blending. The whole is greater than the sum of part. A 50:50 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Concentrated flavours of rich plum and berry with spicy fruitcake complexity.
Ripe plum, berry and floral notes on the nose and a fruit burst of plum and rich dark berry flavours in the mouth. Classic and classy Hawke's Bay Merlot.
On the nose, white peach and almond with hints of citrus and floral notes. Subtle nutmeg. Full-bodied, concentrated, creamy textured. Stonefruit, tropical flavours with a persistent apricot finish.
